Delegate Statement

ENS name: primary ENS used is maaria.eth

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:

The applications for ENS are endless and I can offer a unique perspective around decentralization, self identity, and web3. I have 35+ ENS domains personally registered, some which I use for wallet management, others for education / onboarding, and a lot for self-expression. I've personally bought and donated 15+ ENS domains to new crypto users in order to make it much easier for them to use Ethereum.

I believe deeply in decentralization but I also recognize that there are folks who will take advantage of that. I'd like to advocate for fairness with ENS domains, where domain trolls can't hold domains hostage and we welcome new users into this ecosystem. I'm not advocating for centralizing this decision making, but would love to think through difference models that may disincentivize that type of behavior (similar to spamming). ENS is such a valuable tool for connecting identity with wallets, we should be encouraging companies, brands, and users to join us. ENS has so many potential applications and use cases, and I want to become a delegate in order to continue growing usage and utility of ENS.

My view on each section of the Proposed ENS Constitution 981:

  • Name ownership shall not be infringed: Agree.

  • Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree, with caveat that I heavily lean into the ENS proposed constitution here which suggests using fees as a disincentive model as well.

  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree. ENS funds should go towards driving more adoption, utility, and building with ENS.

  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Agree.

My web3 qualifications / skills:

  • I have been an investor and operator in Web3 since 2016
  • Investments include: Bison Trails, Chainalysis, Dapper Labs, OpenSea, SupeRare, POAP, XMTP, Zapper and many, many more.
  • I am a co-founder of the Stoner Cats NFT collection and Stoner Cats DAO
  • Co-Founder of The Gimmicks NFT collection, which is targeted at a more mainstream audience
  • I've written a weekly crypto newsletter since 2017: thisweekincrypto.substack.com (note: before 2020 I sent the emails directly from my inbox, so archives haven't been uploaded to Substack)
  • I understand how to reach a new audience that isn't crypto-native, and have spent many hours onboarding folks into crypto.
  • I work closely with high-profile brands and the entertainment community, and have a deep understanding of the friction involved in bringing new people into the ecosystem. We have a tremendous opportunity to become the web3 standard for everything related to crypto.
